Scandinavian Customized Prosthesis AS (SCP) was established 1991 with the purpose of developing a better hip prosthesis that would fit perfectly to the individual patient. The basic idea was to fit the implant to the patient – instead of fitting the patient to the implant.
The Unique® implant was the outcome of this work. Each prosthetic implant is designed on basis of digital images (CT images) of the individual patient's hip joint. As a result, each patient receives a prosthesis that fits perfectly – that will function well for many years, and where the hip joint has been adapted in order to function as much as possible as a healthy joint.
So far more than 1,200 patients have received a Unique hip prosthesis. They have experienced substantial reduction of pain, an important improvement of their hip function, and also improved quality of life.
Before new orthopaedic implants are accepted for use, their function and benefits have to be thoroughly documented. Unique was first tested in several hundred patients in Trondheim and at other Norwegian hospitals. The first of these patients have now been followed up over a period of 10 years after their operation. The results of these studies show that Unique offers excellent results for the patients!
Unique is currently in use at leading hospitals throughout Scandinavia, and also at several hospitals in Germany, United Kingdom and The Netherlands.
