Clinical Results


The preliminary clinical results (March 2007) for the custom femoral stem are:


A total of 1200 operated hips
Up to 10 years observation time

Complications:
• Three intraoperative fissures (successfully treated with wiring)
• Eight patients with moderate thigh pain less than 12 months post operative.
• One patient with moderate thigh pain more than 24 months post operative.
• Three luxations (fall injuries, stable after reposition)
• No loosening
• Four revisions due to deep infection (two) and perioprosthetic femoral fracture

University Hospital in Trondheim

The preliminary results (10 years follow up) from non-randomized and randomized studies at Trondheim University Hospital show that Unique® custom stem performs as good as or better than conventional uncemented stem. These studies includes:

• function and pain scores
• x ray analysis
• clinical stability investigations with Radio Stereometric Analysis (RSA)
• remodelling investigations with Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA)

Ullevål University Hospital in Oslo

Preliminary results from randomized studies at Ullevål University Hospital show that Unique custom stem performs as good as or better than a conventional cemented stem. These studies includes :
• function and pain scores
• x ray analysis
